801 House
The 801 House Scholarship was established in 2017 by a group of friends in honor of their time at Truman State University. The hope is that the scholarship helps future students to share in the same memorable college experience and high quality education that has led to their collective success.

ABC/Charles J. McClain
This scholarship was created in 1989 by the Association of Black Collegians with the aid of former Truman President Charles J. McClain and rewards underrepresented students who demonstrate campus and community involvement with organizations such as the ABC.

Adair County/Giovannini
This scholarship was established in 2006 by Marianna Giovannini and is presented to students who are graduates of Adair County Missouri school districts Novinger R-I, Brashear R-II, and Kirksville R-III, in appreciation for the many opportunities and education Marianna received from Northeast Missouri State College, now Truman State University. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who entered Truman State University as a beginning freshman, with no more than a small amount of Truman State University scholarships and who has grown intellectually in their pursuit of higher learning at Truman State University. Marianna is a 1964 and 1967 graduate of Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University). Marianna serves the Head Academic Advisor in the Center for Academic Excellence and is on the Northeast Missouri Alumni Chapter Board of Directors.

Roy and Cleo Allen Memorial
Roy and Cleo Allen were long-time residents of Scotland County, Mo. This scholarship fund was established in honor of the Allens by their son, Walker Allen ('39).

Walker and Doris Allen
This scholarship program was established in 2012 by Pinney Allen and Charles Buddy Miller III of Atlanta, GA and their daughters, Linden and Doria Miller, in recognition and in honor of Pinneys parents, Walker and Doris Allen. Walker W. Allen graduated from Truman State University (then Northeast Missouri State Teachers College) in 1939 with a BSE in Business Education. He served as auditor, controller, secretary and treasurer of Fisher Governor Company in Marshalltown, IA and later moved to Columbia, where he served as associate director of fiscal affairs at the University of Missouri Medical Center. Walker served as a member of the Truman State University Foundation Board of Directors from 1998-2003. He passed away in March of 2009. Doris Allen attended Truman State University from 1938-1939 and resides in Columbia, MO.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Mu Tau Chapter Alumni
This annual fund was created in 2018 by Britney Hendricks and alumnae of Alpha Kappa Alpha to support leaders.

Arizona Alumni Chapter Endowed
 

Charlotte Bailey
Charlotte Bailey ('22) taught home economics for over 40 years, first at La Plata (Mo.) High School and then at Webster Groves High School in St. Louis. She died in 1989, endowing this scholarship fund through her will.

S. Kay (Dewey) Baird and Thomas M. Baird Endowed
This scholarship fund was established in 2013 by S. Kay (Dewey) Baird in honor of her heritage in northeast Missouri and in memory of her husband, Thomas M. Baird. Originally from Pike County, Mo., Kay Baird graduated from Truman State University (then Northeast Missouri State Teachers College and known as KSTC) in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education; major in sociology and minors in psychology and speech. As a University student, she was a member of the Student Historical Society, the Baptist Student Union and the Student National Education Association. Tom and Susan Ballard Endowed
This endowed scholarship fund was established in 2014 by Tom and Susan Ballard of Granger, IA. Purpose of this scholarship fund is to assist financially challenged students who are U.S. citizens earn an undergraduate Truman State University degree. A 1969 alumnus of Truman, Tom served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and was an infantry officer with the 1st Marine Division in Vietnam. Following his military service, Tom began a career in the computer industry that included positions with Honeywell, Loral/Rolm and Cordant Systems. He retired in 1997 as a vice president and corporate officer with Cordant. Tom also served his alma mater as a two-term member of the Foundation Board of Directors and was honored by his alma mater with a Distinguished Service Award in 2007. Susan Ballard retired after a 27-year career with the Central Intelligence Agency.

Barnes Family
This endowed scholarship fund was established in 2006 by Matthew ('94) and Ann Barnes of Houston, Texas to provide opportunity for deserving students to receive a Truman State University education. Mr. Barnes is a former member of the Board of Governors at Truman State University.

Otho L. Barnett Memorial
This scholarship was established in 1980 by friends and family of Otho Barnett. Mr. Barnett was head of the Practical Arts division in 1942, retiring in 1968 after contributing more than 40 years of service to higher education.

Carl H. and Lorene M. Bartling
The Carl H. and Lorene M. Bartling Scholarship fund was established in January, 2015 through the Truman State University Foundation in memory of Dr. John Bartling’s parents. Carl and Lorene placed a high value on education. They instilled the importance of education in their son, John, and were a constant and strong support to him through all of his educational pursuits. Dr. Bartling taught mathematics at Truman State University from 1967 to 1998 and was selected Educator of the Year in 1977 by Alpha Phi Sigma.

Donald Belford Endowed
Donald Belford graduated from Ottumwa High School in Ottumwa, Iowa before attending Truman State University (then Northeast Missouri State Teachers College). He graduated with honors from Truman in 1959 with a bachelor of science in education. He worked as a teacher and a counselor over the course of his professional career teaching high school chemistry and biology in Osceola, IA before teaching junior high science and math in Colorado Springs, CO.

Benny Herman Rose Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Benny Herman Rose with an estate gift. Benny was a 1965 graduate of Northeast Missouri State Teachers College with dual BS degrees in Physics and Education; both with honors. He also earned MS and PhD degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Benny worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory and Air Force Weapons Laboratory for several years before moving to Sandia National Laboratory where he worked for nearly 30 years before retiring. His research included a broad range of projects in solid state physics which involved work on high performance solar cells, ionizing radiation detection and its effects on electronic devices. Throughout his life he encouraged his friends and family to pursue higher education with a particular interest in the education of his beloved nephew and five nieces. With his guidance and encouragement, they all graduated from college and hold 13 degrees among them, including two doctorates. Benny worked his way through college and understood the significant difference that financial assistance can make in the life of a student.

Aaron Berns
This scholarship was established in 1991 by friends and family of Aaron Berns, a sophomore at Truman. Berns was in an auto accident which ended his life. While at Truman, Berns was a national qualifier for Truman's wrestling team. He was a wrestling Team Captain and a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.

Bertha Thomas Legacy Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2023 by Stephanie McGrew, and other Truman alumni and friends, to honor Bertha Thomas for her substantial contributions to Truman students, campus, and the Kirksville community. Bertha has spent more than 20 years as an influential stakeholder within Truman leadership. More than half of those years were spent as the Assistant Dean of Multicultural Affairs where she helped create safe spaces and support systems for all students, especially those from historically underrepresented groups. Bertha's tenacity, innovation, and wisdom made her a cornerstone in the community, and with this scholarship, Bertha's legacy will live on as it helps alleviate financial barriers for student access to higher education. Bertha provided light to many people across the Truman and Kirksville community that will forever shine as a byproduct of her priceless work. Students are required to be on the Martin Luther King Day event planning committee during the academic year they receive this scholarship.

Beta Tau Delta/Mary Evelyn Thurman
This scholarship was created on July 4, 1999, by Mary Evelyn Thurman ('46) who founded the Beta Tau Delta society in 1949. Building Treasured Dreams-where knowledge links learning to living is the motto of this honor society, for Truman State University students who demonstrate outstanding academic and leadership qualities.

Billings Family Endowed
This scholarship was established in June 2017 by James "Jim" Billings ('66, '67), in memory of his late wife, Katheryn "Kay" (Cunningham) Billings ('68), and late son, Dr. James Scott Billings ('84), and in honor of his son, Dr. Christopher Wayne Billings ('86), a Truman biology graduate. Mr. Billings wanted to honor his family's long legacy with Truman State University.

Black Alumni & Attendees
This scholarship was established in 2006 by the Black Alumni & Attendees Scholarship Committee to support underrepresented students at Truman.

President Joseph P. Blanton Memorial
Joseph P. Blanton, a Virginia native, came to Missouri in 1872. Blanton's background included teaching in Kentucky, followed by three years teaching as a faculty member at the Watson Seminary in Ashley, Missouri, and three years as principal of the Parker Seminary in Troy before becoming superintendent of schools in Mexico, Missouri, in 1877. Blanton was elected to the presidency of the Normal School at Kirksville (now known as Truman State University) in 1882 and remained in this position for nine years. During his presidency, Blanton established a reputation as an outspoken leader with a gift for public speaking, and was also the youngest president in the history of the institution, having been appointed shortly before his thirty-fourth birthday. This scholarship was established in 2018 by David A. Blanton, III, of Saint Louis, Missouri, in honor of his great-grandfather, President Joseph P. Blanton.

William and Beverly Blodgett Memorial
This scholarship was established in 1998 as a memorial by friends and family of William Blodgett. William Blodgett was employed at the University as a custodian for 21 years, retiring in 1995. Beverly Blodgett was the Benefits Coordinator at Truman and retired in 2004.

Blue Key/John R. Kirk Honorary
This scholarship was established in 1992 by the men of the John R. Kirk Chapter of the Blue Key National Honor Fraternity to recognize and promote academics, leadership and service excellence at Truman. In 1993, Dr. Roland Nagel ('43), a Blue Key alumnus, generously donated to this fund to enhance the Blue Key scholarship.

Bill and Leila Bondurant Memorial
The Bill and Leila Bondurant Memorial Scholarship fund was created to honor the memory of William (Bill) George Bondurant and Leila Ruth Mulford Bondurant through a generous gift commitment from their son David Bondurant, a 1971 Truman graduate; and their daughter Ann Graff. This award will provide financial assistance to students from Kirksville Senior High School. Bill was reared in Kirksville, Missouri where he graduated from Kirksville Senior High School. He attended Kirksville Teachers College (now Truman State University) and received his bachelors degree in 1940. He served in the US Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Bill and Leila owned and operated the family business, the Palace Bakery for several years. He later became employed at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine as administrator of Rural Clinics until his retirement in 1982. He received his realtors license and was employed with the Whitney Century 21 Agency until 2002. Bill was a member of the Kirksville Lions Club for over 60 years. Bill and Leila shared a love of travel.

Henry M. and Madeline A. Boucher Memorial
This scholarship was established through a bequest by Henry Boucher ('31) in 1997. Boucher served on the Board of Regents of Truman from 1959 to 1963 and served as the first Dean of Student Affairs at Truman from 1963 until 1972, when he retired. During his lifetime, he demonstrated a strong commitment to education and encouraged values such as leadership and service.

Dr. Willis J. Bray
Dr. Willis J. Bray was a Truman faculty member from 1911-1952. He was head of the chemistry department and from 1925-1946 was dean of the Division of Science and Mathematics. Dr. Bray also served his country in both World Wars.

Greg and Geri Brown Endowed
This scholarship was established on November 16, 2016 by Greg and Geri Brown through a gift from their donor advised fund. The scholarship was established through the Pursue the Future Campaign and is intended to provide meaningful scholarship support to deserving Truman students. Greg graduated from Truman in 1984 with a B.S. in political science and Geri graduated from Truman in 1983 with a B.S. in business education and a B.S. in business administration. Greg and Geri believe that by students being involved in activities beyond and in addition to the classroom (whether that be with other campus organizations, intercollegiate athletics or in the Greek system), it will contribute to them becoming more well-rounded students/people. Ultimately, they believe those characteristics contribute to a better prepared student, more productive graduate and to a more engaged and productive contributor to society. While attending Truman Greg was very active in his fraternity, holding many positions like social chair, president and ultimately received the Ellsworth C. Dent Man of the Year Award, the highest honor awarded to an undergraduate for his fraternity nationwide. In addition, he was very involved in Student Senate at Truman, chairing numerous committees and serving in a variety of leadership roles. Geri was very active in her sorority as well, as Treasurer, V.P. in charge of Pledge Training and serving in various other capacities. She was also elected as Student Senate Councilwomen at Large. She was an Attendant on the Homecoming Court and active in the Delta Sigma Pi Business Fraternity. She was selected as a Purple Pride member to assist alumni at basketball games. She was a Wrestling Cheerleader, Pom-Pom Girl and played Intercollegiate Field Hockey all four years at Truman.

Bullets Rugby Alumni
This scholarship was established through the generous gifts from former Bullets Ruggers, friends, and family. Bullets Rugby is a club sport that brought many wonderful memories to its players since it was founded in 1991. To honor these memories and those who have kept the sport going all of these years, the alumni created this scholarship in 2019 with the intent to have it fully endowed by 2021 in honor of the 30th anniversary of the club.

Burdman Family Memorial
This scholarship was established by Joe Burdman, who founded Burdman Auto Parts in Kirksville. Burdman's son, Col. Louis A. Burdman, was a 1940 graduate of Truman.

Samuel Burk
This scholarship was established in 1982 by Vera Burk in honor of her late husband, Samuel Burk. Burk served on the Truman Board of Regents from 1973 through 1979, serving a year as president. The Burks founded Kirksville's KIRX and KRXL radio stations.

The Cady
This scholarship is designated for the Greek Woman of the Year, a female member of the Greek community demonstrating outstanding involvement in campus leadership and philanthropy. The Cady award memorializes a great American woman, Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

Timmy and LaTecia Campbell
This scholarship was established in 2007 by Melvi Sheppard to commemorate her children, Timmy and LaTecia Campbell.

Marilyn Cannaday Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was created in November 2022 by Linda (Campbell) Newton ('81) and family in memory of her mother, Marilyn Cannaday ('69, '76). Marilyn grew up in the La Plata, Missouri area, attended rural schools, and graduated from La Plata High School in 1950. After her youngest child started kindergarten, she attended college at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College. Despite being a non-traditional student, she excelled in college, producing several pieces of award-winning journalism as a student writer, and graduated with honors in 1969 with a BS in Education degree. Marilyn shared her passion for education with her children and all four worked their way through college. "Education is the great equalizer" was one of her famous statements, and she was proof that, coming from a background of rural poverty and low expectations, to live a life that inspired so many people.

Chambers Family Endowed
This scholarship fund was established in 2011 by Kenneth and Barbara Chambers, the parents of Brad Chambers and the father-in-law and mother-in-law of Melody Chambers. It will be supplemented with a deferred gift commitment from the estate of Brad and Melody. Brad is a 1986 Truman graduate. He joined the University staff following graduation and represented the University Admissions office for 22 years before leaving the position of co-director of undergraduate admissions to become the planned giving officer in the University Advancement office. Brad retired in 2016 following an outstanding career and 30 years representing the University. Melody is a 1985 Truman graduate and retired in 2019 as the director of undergraduate admission at the University after a career spanning more than 30 years. Brad and Melody's daughters, Jaime and Madison, are also Truman State University alumni and their daughter Randall is a current student.

Afimusaesae (Sae) Tuia-Pamela E. Wun Chang
The Afimusaesae (Sae) Tuia-Pamela E. Wun Chang Academic Enrichment Scholarship was established by the Tuia children in honor of their beloved parents, Sae and Pamela (Chang) Tuia. Both first generation college students, Mr. and Mrs. Tuia are proud graduates of the University of Hawaii-Manoa and have, through example, taught their children both the joy of service and of the inherent dignity and worth of all people. Through hard work, they greatly expanded the opportunities available to their three children: Justis (Truman State University '07, American University '09), Jessicaann (United States Naval Academy '06, A.T. Still University ‘18), and Jacob (Missouri University of Science and Technology ’16, Brigham Young University ‘18). As such, this award recognizes students who demonstrate a strong commitment to social justice on behalf of minorities (i.e., commitment to the betterment of conditions for women, those of lower socio-economic status, sexual, gender, racial, ethnic and/or religious minorities).

Chicago Alumni Chapter
This scholarship was established in 2005 by the Chicago Alumni Chapter.

Kirksville Church of Christ
This scholarship endowment was completed in 2020 by friends and members of the Church of Christ, 110 Pfeiffer Avenue, Kirksville, Missouri.

Edward Clark
This scholarship was established in 2007 with a bequest from the estate of Bernice Clark.

Class of 1952
This scholarship was established by the Class of 1952 in honor of their Golden Alumni year in 2002.

Class of 1953
In honor of its 50th anniversary in 2003, the Class of 1953 established this scholarship to support students who are active on campus and who have financial need. Led by Guy Burton ('53), graduates from the Class of 1953 endowed this scholarship so that it would provide assistance to students and be a permanent legacy for the Class of 1953.

Class of 1954
This scholarship was established by the Class of 1954 in honor of their 50th reunion.

Russell W. and Mary Jane Cleeton
This scholarship was established through the generous bequest of $100,000 by Russell W. ('41) and Mary Jane Cleeton. Russell W. Cleeton was a graduate of the high school at Seymour, Iowa, and Mary Jane Harvey Cleeton was a graduate of the high school at Centerville, Iowa. Mary Jane Cleeton passed away on August 28, 2004, and her husband, Russell, passed away on March 8, 2001.

Ella and Holland Clem
This scholarship fund was created in 2011 by Ella and Holland Clem of La Plata, MO in recognition of the family's long tradition with Truman State University, and to provide opportunity for deserving students from La Plata and the immediate surrounding area to receive a Truman State University education. Upon graduation from Truman in 1940, Holland taught school in rural northeast Missouri. In 1957, along with partner Richard Ramsey, Holland established the C&R Market grocery store chain by opening the first store in La Plata. Over the years, C&R Markets expanded to Shelbina, Palmyra, Macon, Monroe City, Edina, Kahoka, California, Centralia, Fayette, Boonville and Fulton. C&R Markets have provided a high quality and exceptional service hometown grocery for those communities over the past several decades.

Louis B. (Benny) Clithero
This scholarship was established in 2019 by David and Ellen Clithero in honor of David’s father, Louis B. (Benny) Clithero. The scholarship will be funded through outright gifts and further bolstered through a provision in their will. David and Ellen Clithero are both graduates of Truman State University. David graduated in 1983 with a bachelor of science in business education. Ellen graduated in 1998 with a bachelor of science in psychology.

The Ecology, Evolution and Conservation Biology
This scholarship was established in 2008 by Dr. Peter Goldman. Dr. Goldman grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, and attended Carleton College and obtained a BS from The Ohio State University. He continued there for his PhD working in the lab of one of the pioneers in the study of animal vocal behavior. Dr. Goldman joined the faculty at Truman State University in the early 1970s and continued teaching for more than 35 years. He took several years off in the late 1990's and participated in bird conservation projects in California. His main interests include the evolution of behavior, primarily behavior of birds. During his career, he has studied vocal communication, foraging behavior, social behavior, parental care and community organization. He created this endowed scholarship to assist students at Truman State University who are entering the field of conservation biology.

Clifton Cornwell Award for Electronic Media
This scholarship was established in 1991 by William L. Moore (’34) in honor of his former professor, Clifton Cornwell. A native of Spickard, Mo., Cornwell attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman) while also teaching at a number of local rural schools. He became a member of the Truman faculty in 1924 and completed coursework for his Bachelor of Art’s degree at Truman in 1925. He earned a Master’s degree from University of Missouri in 1930. In 1945, he accepted a position as director of public relations with the Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery. He retired from that position in 1961 and was awarded an honorary degree from KCOS of Doctor of Humane Letters. He passed away in 2012.

Dr. Laura Crandall
The scholarship was established in 2004 by Judge and Mrs. William Crandall to honor their daughter, Dr. Laura Crandall ('99), upon her graduation from the A.T. Still University of Health Sciences.

Marian Collet Creason Memorial
This scholarship was created by Wayne Creason ('62) in memory of Wayne's mother, Marian (Collet) Creason. The scholarship is a reflection of her desire to help deserving young people in their pursuit of higher learning.

Jane Crow
This scholarship was established in memory of Jane Crow ('23) by Helen Miller ('48), who was touched by Crow's teaching. Crow served more than 28 years in Kirksville public schools as a supervisor/teacher, assistant principal and assistant director of guidance in the Junior High School.

Ronald K. Cullers Veterans Club
This scholarship was established in 1985 by The Veterans Club. The Ronald K. Cullers Veterans Club was named after a 1965 graduate who was the first Truman alumnus to die in the Vietnam War.

The Honorable Pat Danner
This scholarship was established in 2002 by The Honorable Pat Danner, former member of the U.S. Congress.

DeSantis-Then Endowed
This scholarship was established by Lauren DeSantis-Then ('03) and Corey Then ('02) to promote diversity, cultural learning and opportunities for first generation college students.

Durward DeWitt
This scholarship was made possible by a gift from Durward G. De Witt ('25). Following graduation, De Witt worked as a teacher, superintendent and later co-founded the Glow Candle Company in Kansas City, Mo.

Ethan Dobereiner Memorial
This scholarship was established in June, 2012 in loving memory of Ethan Joshua Dobereiner, newborn son of Josh (96) and Mindy Dobereiner of Galesburg, Ill. Although Ethan's life was short, his parents wanted to preserve his legacy by helping future teachers at Truman achieve their educational goals.

Dwight R. Dover and Delora R. Dover
This fund was established in 1999 to benefit outstanding students from Brashear, Adair County R-II School District, the alma mater of Mr. Dover. The Dovers owned the Dover Beauty College for 28 years. Mrs. Dover died in 1993.

Jesse and Berenice Dry
Berenice Dry ('47) was an English professor at Truman from 1962-1976. This scholarship was established through her will in 1989.

COL (Ret) Robert and Doris Duckworth
This scholarship was established by Robert and Doris Duckworth through the Duckworth Living Trust. The purpose of this fund shall be to provide scholarship support of up to full tuition for students at Truman State University who graduated from Brookfield Missouri High School.

Claude and Gladie Dye Memorial
This scholarship was established in 1994 in memory of Claude N. Dye ('17) and Gladie (Childers) Dye ('19) by their daughter, Louis (Dye) Pearce('49) (now deceased) and her husband, R.L. Pearce ('49). Claude was a WW I veteran traveling across England, France, Luxemburg and Germany. Claude and Gladie both taught in Bevier, Mo., and he later became the superintendent of schools.

Dr. Kevin L. Easley Mathematics and Physics
This scholarship was established in January, 2015 by Dr. John Bartling in honor of Dr. Kevin Easley. Dr. Easley graduated from Truman in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics. He went on to obtain his master’s from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1981, and completed his doctorate at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1991. Dr. Easley joined the Truman faculty in 1985; Dr. Bartling was a friend, colleague and mentor to Dr. Easley. This scholarship will provide support to students declaring dual majors in mathematics and physics at Truman.

Ekklesia HOALTC
This scholarship was established in 2014 by Barry and Catherine Poyner.

Jim and Jean Elliott
This scholarship was established in 1993 by Jim and Jean Elliott. Jean served the University for more than 23 years and for five different presidents as executive secretary. Jean retired in October 1990.

Paul and Mary Erwin
Mary M. Erwin established this scholarship through a bequest in 1997.

Georgia L. and Maria L. Evans
This scholarship fund was established by Maria L. Evans (81). Say You Will is a personal motto of Maria's, reflecting her belief in the power of personal determination and positive thinking. From summer softball league to the challenge of medical school, this personal motto always inspired Maria. She is a 1981 graduate of Truman and earned her M.D. at the University of Missouri -- Columbia. She served on the Truman State University Board of Governors form 1995 to 2001. She has chosen to honor her mother, Georgia L. Evans, with the scholarship as Georgia never had the opportunity to attend college but always valued education.

FHA/HERO
This scholarship was funded through profits earned when the Future Homemakers of America held meetings here on campus.

President Eugene and Alta Fair
Eugene Fair ('01) was the sixth president of Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, now Truman State University from 1925 to 1937. His wife, Alta Lorenz, was also a 1901 graduate. This scholarship fund was established by Dr. Kenneth ('29) and Eleanor ('31) Milstead in memory of her parents.

First Americans
The First Americans Scholarship was established by Major General John V. Cox ('52) and Mrs. Patricia (McMichael) Cox in 2021. The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships at Truman State University for students with Native American ancestry. The term “First Americans” was used to refer to Native Americans by President Harry S. Truman, the namesake of Truman State University.

Jerry and Janice Fisher Scholarship
This scholarship was established in March 2020 with an estate designation by Jerry and Janice Fisher. It's for full-time students at Truman State University with financial need.

Colleen Foudree PHT
This scholarship fund was established in 2007 by Chuck and Colleen Foudree of Lee's Summit, MO to honor and recognize the role Colleen Foudree played in putting hubby through at Truman State University. Colleen played an integral role in the family while Chuck earned his accounting degree at Truman.

Dr. William H. Fountain
This scholarship was endowed in 1997 with a gift of $25,000 by Dr. William H. Fountain ('40). The scholarship is a reflection of his commitment to the University and his desire to help deserving young people in their pursuit of higher learning.

The Fulks Family
This scholarship was established in 2006 by Mr. Donald (Donnie) E. Fulks. It provides scholarship support for a nursing or pre-physical therapy student with demonstrated financial need. The scholarship honors Donnie's parents, James E. (Jug) and Phyllis L. Fulks, who were also his best friends. The scholarship also honors the rest of the Fulks family. Donnie was proud to have had six family members, in addition to himself, graduate from Truman. These family members are: Sharon (Fulks) Rardon '72 (sister), Mark Fulks '77 (brother), Janelle (Jessen) Fulks '78 (sister-in-law), April Fulks '02 (niece), Michelle Fulks '02 (niece) and Paul McQuillen '02 (nephew). Donnie graduated from Truman in 1980 with a bachelor of science degree in Business and Accountancy. He passed away in January, 2014; the scholarship he established is designed to be awarded in his family’s name in perpetuity.

Leo and Caroline Funk
This scholarship was established in 2007 by Leo and Caroline Funk to provide financial support for academically talented students of high character at Truman. Although Leo and Caroline did not graduate from Truman, they have maintained a close and supportive relationship with the University over the years. Caroline served as a member of the Board of Regents from 1974-1977. Leo and Caroline have also established two endowed scholarships in honor of two of their grandchildren, John Andrew Crossett ('05) and Katie Funk ('06), both of whom graduated from Truman.

Gaber Achievement Award
This award is named in recognition of Ron Gaber, director of Residence Life at Truman from 1976-1988, and his wife, Elsie. Ron was a major influence in supporting, encouraging and recognizing student involvement in the Residence Halls. He was instrumental in providing leadership opportunities for Residence Hall students through the Residence Hall Association, individual hall government and the recognition of student volunteerism. The Gaber Achievement Award recognizes volunteerism, commitment, quality and involvement with peers.

Harry M. and Essie M. Gardner
The fund was established with a gift of $50,000 from Mark Gardner, a 1975 alumnus, and his business, Gardner Capital of Springfield, MO. The scholarship honors his parents; Harry and Essie Gardner of Edina, MO. Essie Kelley attended summer classes at Truman State University for four consecutive years (1940-43) to earn her teaching certification and taught school prior to her marriage to Harry M. Gardner. Essie was the first member of her family to attend college and strongly encouraged her five children to do the same. She worked outside the home when her oldest child reached college age to help finance their educations, among her many examples of hard work, sacrifice and remarkable sense of selflessness. Harry Gardner supported her vision through his own tireless work and sacrifice. Mark Gardner graduated from Truman State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He earned a law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1977 and represented clients in the areas of business law, commercial law, real estate development and real estate finance. He formed Gardner Capital more than 20 years ago and has grown the company into one of the nation’s foremost tax credit development, investment and syndication firms. The company specializes in affordable housing development and has sponsored more than $500 million of equity in housing units in 55 communities. Gardner Capital also invests in renewable energy production facilities and provides other development and investment related services such as asset, property, operations and construction management. This scholarship is presented to students in the spirit of the Gardner family’s passion for lifelong learning and their belief that education is the foundation of civilized society.

Coach Kenneth Gardner Memorial Annual
This scholarship was established in 2004 in honor of Coach Kenneth Gardner and a new endowment was created in 2019. Coach Gardner was inducted as a charter member of the Truman State University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1983. Gardner was named All-Conference in football in 1940, 1941 and 1946 and also received All-American honors, and also earned three letters in Track. His college career was interrupted by military service in the army during World War II. Upon graduation from Truman in 1947, Gardner enjoyed a successful coaching tenure at Marceline High School for four years, and his 1949 team was the conference co-champion. In 1951, he returned to Truman as assistant football coach. He also served as track coach, assistant basketball coach and cross country coach. Gardner's track teams won 19 MIAA Indoor Championships and 15 conference outdoor titles, and thirty-five of his track performers received Division II All-American recognition, eleven winning individual national titles. After 1974, Gardner served as the University's Athletic Director and spearheaded a period of growth for Truman athletics. During his tenure, Gardner doubled the number of intercollegiate sports at the University to 21, including the introduction of women's sports in 1972. Gardner passed away in 1992 at the age of 72.

Truman State University General Annual
The purpose of this general scholarship fund is to provide scholarships to students studying at Truman State University. The fund was established in 1986 with contributions from alumni and friends of the University. Since its formation, thousands of gifts have been designated to the fund.

Neil and Lou Ann Gilchrist
This scholarship fund was established in 2001 by Drs. Neil and Lou Ann Gilchrist of Kirksville to commemorate their careers at Truman State University and to provide opportunity for deserving students to receive a Truman State University education. Neil serves as a Professor in the School of Business and Lou Ann is the Dean of Student Affairs.

Dr. Ralph and Vera Ross Gillet
Dr. Ralph Gillet, D.O., practiced medicine in La Plata, Mo. His wife, Vera Ross Gillet ('30), was a teacher of business education for over 20 years in secondary schools of northeast Missouri.

Noma Blanche Glahn
Noma Glahn ('28), a resident of La Plata, Mo., endowed this scholarship in 1981. Glahn was the co-founder of the Glow Candle Company of Kansas City and died in 1988.

Herbert and Anna Gordon/Jack and Violet De Jovin
This scholarship is awarded annually in honor of the parents of Garry Gordon, vice president for academic affairs, and Elaine De Jovin, admissions counselor at Truman State University. The Herbert and Anna Gordon and Jack and Violet De Jovin Scholarship is designated for a first-generation student who is currently enrolled at Truman State University.

Greek Week Annual
The Greek Week Annual Scholarship was established by the Greek Week fundraising committee in 2012 to support members of the Greek community at Truman State University.

Charles B. and Venita Jean Green
This scholarship was established through an estate gift from Charles and Venita ('64) Green. Charles was born on a farm south of Downing in Scotland County. He attended Walnut Grove Rural School, graduated from Downing High School and attended Truman State University (then Northeast Missouri State Teachers College) for two years before entering the Army. He served in active combat and landed on Utah Beach, France immediately after D-Day. Charles was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and four Bronze Stars. He was discharged Oct. 7, 1945, with the rank of 1st Sgt. After the war, Charles returned to the farm where he was born. He was married to Venita Jean Childress of Granger, on June 14, 1970. She taught in the Keokuk school district before marrying Charles. She graduated from Truman with a master’s degree in education in 1964. She passed away Aug. 21, 2004 at the age of 74. Charles passed away Sept. 7, 2009 at the age of 92. The scholarship fund was created in 2010 with an estate gift of $525,000 to enable serious students from Scotland and/or Schuyler counties to attend Truman.

Stephen and Mariquit Hadwiger Endowed Study Abroad
This scholarship was established and fully endowed through a $15,000 cash/pledge commitment by Dr. Stephen Hadwiger and Mrs. Mariquit Hadwiger of Kirksville, Missouri. Steve received his BSN from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, his MSN from University of Oklahoma and his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He became a member of the Truman faculty in 1993 and currently serves as professor of nursing. Kit earned her BSN at Central Philippines University and her MSN at Texas Christian University. She joined the Truman faculty in 1994 and currently serves as associate professor of nursing. In addition to their regular duties throughout the academic year, the Steve and Kit have served as faculty sponsors for the Transcultural Nursing Experience in the Philippines each summer since 1996. Kit, a native of the Philippines, was responsible for creating the three-week cultural immersion for senior nursing students, thanks in large part to a Truman sponsored grant. She has made the trip every year since the program’s inception, with Steve accompanying her for all but three summers.

Jeannette Harris and Geraldine Ready
This scholarship was established by Jeannette (Toth) Harris, ('71) and Geraldine (Toth) Ready, ('70) in December 2000 in appreciation for the education they received at Northeast Missouri State College (now Truman State University). They were the first of their family to graduate from college and their education helped them achieve their goals and enriched their lives---and they wish to help others achieve their educational and career goals. Jeannette and Geraldine supported each other as students, working at the White Cabin Cafe' near campus for only 49 cents per hour. Both started college in 1965 and attended full time until January of 1968 when they returned to the St. Louis area to work full time to save money to return to college. In August of 1968, Geraldine returned and completed her college career while Jeannette taught at Sacred Heart in Troy and assisted with Geraldine's education. Geraldine graduated in August 1970 and assisted Jeannette with her education. Jeannette took classes during the summers and returned to Northeast full time in June 1970, graduating in 1971. Jeannette and Geraldine fund this annual scholarship for a freshman female student from Missouri with financial need.

R. Russell and Jacquelin E. Harrison
This scholarship was established by Russell ('55) and Jacquelin ('54, '61) Harrison of Kirksville, Mo. Russ began his 38-year tenure with Truman State University (then Northeast Missouri State University) in 1955 as director of news services. He was named the Director of Public Relations in 1967, and served in many roles at the University throughout his distinguished career, including Director of Alumni Activities, Director of Public Services and finally Director of Governmental Relations. Jacquelin taught business courses at Kirksville High School for many years. They have three children, Kevin ('79, '83), Craig and Lori ('85, '92).

W. Edwin and Hazel (Kuhn) Hartford Memorial
W. Edwin Hartford ('38) was a retired commander in the U.S. Navy who later worked for the federal government. His wife, Hazel Kuhn Hartford ('37) was a teacher in the St. Louis area for more than 20 years. They endowed this scholarship fund in 1990.

This scholarship was established in 2000 by a generous gift from Joe Hasenstab ('60) to provide financial assistance to young leaders. This assistance is provided with the hope that recipients will go on to be successful members of society and continue to strengthen their relationship with Truman through charitable donations of either time or resources.

Angela Rose Hermann Memorial
This scholarship was established in 2004 by alumni Dr. William M. Spees ('93) and his wife, Dr. Catherine Hermann ('92) to honor Catherine's sister, Angela Rose Hermann. Angie Hermann enrolled at Truman State University in the fall of 1999, but her life was cut short by leukemia in June 2002. This scholarship has been established in her memory as a means to continue to share the joy that she brought to those whose lives she touched. The award is to be given to a student of demonstrated academic promise in the hopes that it will help the student to obtain an education which otherwise might not be possible due to financial constraints.

Harold L. Hess and Ozella M. Hess
Nathan Stark ('00) and his wife, Erin (Winfrey) Stark ('99) established this scholarship in 2012 in recognition of the support Harold and Ozy Hess provided their grandchildren, including Nathan, to pursue higher education and the model they served in values and citizenship. This assistance is provided with the hope that recipients will continue to achieve their ambitions, lead in the pursuit of a greater society, and strengthen their relationship with Truman through charitable donations of time and/or resources.

This scholarship was established by Mr. Mark Hickman and Mrs. Edith Hickman of Columbia, Mo. with an estate gift provision of approximately $500,000. Mark is a 1977 graduate of Truman State University having earned a BS in accounting. Mark was awarded a Master of Business Administration from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1991. Mark and Edith are retired from USG Corporation where Mark served as Director of Compliance and Control and Edith served as Director of Marketing. The purpose of this Fund shall be to provide scholarship support of up-to full tuition for students at Truman State University.

Traci (Delaney) Hill
This scholarship fund is designed to provide opportunity for deserving students to earn a Truman State University degree. For more than 30 years, Traci (Delaney) Hill has served as the executive secretary/executive assistant to the presidents of Truman State University. Over the years, she has very capably served Presidents Charles J. McClain, Robert A. Dager, Russell G. Warren, Jack Magruder, Barbara Dixon, Darrell W. Krueger, Troy D. Paino, and Susan L. Thomas. She has built relationships with numerous alumni, faculty/staff and Board of Regents/Governors during her service to Truman. A 1983 graduate of Truman, Traci has served with distinction in her various responsibilities in the President's Office. In particular, she has provided extraordinary support to the Board of Governors by coordinating logistics for hundreds of meetings over the years.

Dennis Hohn
This scholarship fund was established in 2014 by Dennis Hohn of Ottumwa, IA. This fund is designed to provide opportunity for deserving students to earn a Truman State University degree. Dennis received a bachelor of science in education and a master's degree in history from Truman in 1967 and 1973 respectively. Following a brief teaching career, Dennis became an Edward Jones financial advisor and has operated a successful practice in Ottumwa for several years. He has also served the firm as a regional manager. While attending Truman, he was a member of Alpha Phi Omega, College Republicans, Historical Society and Sigma Tau Gamma. Most recently, he completed two terms as a member of the Truman State University Foundation Board of Directors. The fund has been created with a $25,000 pledge through the University's "Pursue the Future" campaign.

Todd Robert Holcomb Endowed
This scholarship was established by Dr. Todd Holcomb ('84), of Scottsbluff, Neb., to provide scholarship support for students with financial need at Truman State University. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology in 1984, Dr. Holcomb earned a Master's degree at Texas Tech University and Doctor of Education from University of Georgia. Following a six-year term as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs at Iowa State University, he was named the President of Western Nebraska Community College in 2010.

Holman Family Graduate Student
This scholarship fund was established in 2008 to commemorate the Holman family's long association with Truman State University. The home of Squire Paul and Meeda (Daniel) Holman was located at 1001 South Florence Street, near campus, and the family opened their home to numerous Truman students over the years. Paul served on the Truman staff, working as a custodian in Magruder Hall. They influenced their children, Charles, Wilmer and Vinita, to pursue a college education and had a positive impact on many Truman students' lives through their long association.

Dianna Holmes Endowed
This scholarship fund was created in 2016 by Dianna Holmes of Ft. Madison, Iowa to provide opportunity for deserving students to receive a Truman State University education. After graduating from Aquinas High School, in Ft. Madison, Dianna enrolled at Ottumwa Heights (Indian Hills Community College) in Ottumwa, Iowa where she completed an Associate of Arts degree. Dianna earned her Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis in Business Education from Truman State University in 1971. Being awarded a teaching assistantship by Dr. Charles Kauzlarich, Head of the Business and Accountancy program provided Dianna with the encouragement needed to continue her education at Truman culminating in her earning a Master of Arts in Business Education in 1972. During her high school and college years, Dianna worked during summer breaks for the telephone company in Ft. Madison and Davenport, Iowa. After graduating in 1972 she taught for one year before accepting a permanent position with the telephone company in Des Moines, Iowa. Dianna enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1975 and served in Germany until 1978. When her military service concluded, Dianna resumed her career with the phone company which included employment in Indiana before retiring in 2003 and returning to Iowa. Dianna created this endowed scholarship fund with a $25,000 planned gift commitment through the University's "Pursue the Future" campaign.

Dwain and Vera Horn
This scholarship fund was established in 2007 by Dwain ('50) and Vera Horn of Omaha, NE in recognition of their lifelong connection with Truman State University. Dwain completed a six-year term on the Truman State University Foundation Board of Directors in 2007 and served as chair of the Investment Committee. A native of Moulton, IA, his business career spanned four decades with Principal Mutual Insurance and Mutual of Omaha. Vera passed away on November 27, 2007 and Dwain passed away on October 25, 2017.

V. Don Hudson Memorial
This scholarship was initiated by Rose Hudson in memory of her late husband, V. Don Hudson ('27). As a child he contracted polio, but for the rest of his life Hudson never let this obstacle deter him from his goals. Rose Hudson established this scholarship to help students, who due to physical disabilities or other handicaps, might not be able to achieve their educational goals without financial assistance. Mrs. Hudson passed away on June 8, 1996.

O.T. and Opal L. Huffman
This scholarship was established in 1981 with funds provided through the Last Will and Testament of Opal L. Huffman ('28).

Lyle Ingraham
The Lyle Ingraham Scholarship fund was created through a generous estate provision from Lyle Ingraham. Mr. Ingraham was a native of Green Castle, Mo., and later moved to Browning, Mo. where he graduated from high school in 1923. Mr. Ingraham attended Kirksville Normal School, now Truman State University, and then taught school in Sullivan County. He became President and Chief Executive Officer of Citizens Bank in Browning, where he operated a community bank for many years. Mr. Ingraham also managed insurance, farming and cattle enterprises. In retirement, he moved to the Kansas City area. Mr. Ingraham passed away on July 3, 2005, at the age of 99.

Dr. Lydia Inman Fjeld
The purpose of this endowed scholarship fund is to provide fellowships to students enrolled in graduate studies at Truman State University. The fund was established with a gift of $25,000 from the estate of the late Dr. Lydia Inman Fjeld, who passed away on March 13, 2015 at the age of 96. A lifelong scholar and educator, Dr. Inman Fjeld impacted countless students over a career that spanned 43 years. She taught home economics in secondary schools in Iowa and Illinois and at the University of Arizona, Michigan State University, Oklahoma State University, Iowa State University and Truman State University. Her service to Truman began in 1973 as head of the Division of Home Economics. In 1975, she assumed the position of Dean of Graduate Studies until her retirement in 1983. Her many honors include being named a General Foods Fund Fellow while a student at the University of Minnesota, being listed in the 1975 edition of Outstanding Educators of America and receiving the 1977 Merit Award from the Dairy Council of Greater Kansas City. This scholarship is presented to students in the spirit of Dr. Inman Fjeld’s passion for lifelong learning and her belief that education is the foundation of civilized society.

Investing in Students
The Investing in Students Fund was established by an initial contribution from Darrell and Nancy Krueger and is supported by donations from faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the University. Dr. Krueger was the president at Truman State University from 2008-2010 and established this fund in response to the financial needs of students and their families following the market crash of 2008. The fund continues to receive support from the University community to support Truman students with the potential for success.

Iowa Alumni Chapter
This scholarship was established in 2006 by the Iowa Alumni Chapter to support students from Iowa.

James F. Jae, Jr.
James Jae served on Truman's Board of Regents from 1970 to 1973. Jae was general manager and vice president of KHMO radio in Hannibal, Mo. The scholarship was started through the contributions of friends and relatives.

Edward and Marietta Jayne
This scholarship was endowed in 2003 to honor Edward R. and Marietta Jayne, by their three sons, Randy, Marty and Tom. Edward and Marietta have the distinction of being the only husband and wife team to serve full terms on the Board of Regents at Truman State University, albeit at different times. Thomas R. Jayne, their youngest son, was appointed to the Board of Governors at Truman in 2000 and served as Board president in 2003. Edward R. Jayne was raised in Kirksville and attended Truman from 1938 to 1941, when he entered law school. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he served in the Pacific Theater, where for eighteen months he was one of the crew of a tank landing ship. He participated in the bloody landings at Pelelui, Leyte, Lingayan Gulf, Luzon and Okinawa. Following his discharge from the navy, Jayne earned a law degree and returned to Kirksville. He began to practice in partnership with his father, Edward M. Jayne, and continued his practice of law in Kirksville until his retirement in 1993. He was appointed to the Board of Regents at Truman in 1961. Marietta Jonas Jayne was born and raised in Kirksville and has spent most of her life as a Kirksville resident. She obtained a teaching degree and taught social science in the Kirksville Junior High School from 1942 to 1944. After her marriage to Edward R. Jayne in 1943, she resigned from the junior high faculty but did substitute teaching until 1960, when she was elected to the Kirksville Board of Education, a position she held until 1972. During that twelve-year span, she was the only woman on the school board and served four years as its president. She was appointed to the Board of Regents at Truman in 1977. She is a graduate of MU and Northeast Missouri State University, now Truman State University.

Connie Holt Jones
This scholarship was established in honor of Connie Holt Jones who served as a faculty member in the Language and Literature Division from 1965 until her retirement in 1997. Her primary teaching specialties were Shakespeare, English Renaissance Literature and Creative Writing. She passed away May 6, 2003.

Jude Anselm
This scholarship was established by David and Ellen Clithero in August 2008 in honor of their grandson, Jude Anselm. An endowed scholarship of the same name will be funded through a provision in their will. David and Ellen Clithero are both graduates of Truman State University. David graduated in 1983 with a bachelor of science in business education. Ellen graduated in 1998 with a bachelor of science in psychology.

Kansas City Alumni Chapter
This scholarship was established in 2006 by the Kansas City Alumni Chapter for an entering freshman student from the Kansas City area who demonstrates financial need, scholastic achievement (with a 3.0 GPA or higher) and involvement in extra-curricular activities promoting community building and service.

Mary Ellen Kersey Endowed
This scholarship was established by Mary Ellen Kersey, formerly of Gillespie County, TX, with a bequest of $20,000 through the University's Bright Minds Bright Futures campaign. Mrs. Kersey graduated in 1938 with a degree in education and established this scholarship to assist students with financial need.

Kiwanis Club Future Leader
The Kiwanis Club of Kirksville, Mo., has established this scholarship to support graduates of Kirksville High School in their efforts to attain a college degree.

Nedra Klein Memorial
This scholarship was endowed in 2003 as a memorial by the family, friends and colleagues of Dr. Nedra Klein (1951-2001). Dr. Klein became assistant professor of biology at Truman State University in August 1997. Prior to teaching at Truman, she taught at the University of Wisconsin and at Lewis and Clark University in Lake Oswego, Ore. Dr. Klein took great pleasure in introducing her students to the study of ornithology and was regarded as an outstanding scientist and professor who cared deeply about her students. She loved birds, nature, travel, research and teaching. The scholarship is designated for students who are involved in research on birds.

Paul Klote
This scholarship was established by Paul J. Klote of Mason, Ohio. Paul is a 1967 alumnus having earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.

Bill and Marie Krueger
Established in 1987, this scholarship was formed by family and friends as a memorial for Bill and Marie Krueger, the parents of Dr. Darrell W. Krueger. Dr. Krueger served as dean of instruction at Truman from 1971 to 1989. He served as president at Winona State University for 16 years and returned to Kirksville in 2008 to serve as president at Truman State University.

Kuebler Family Endowed
This scholarship was established in 2004 by Kevin and Bonnie Kuebler in honor of their family legacy with Truman State University and in honor of their children, Adam Kuebler and Jane Kuebler, and their accomplishments and activities at Truman.

LGBTQ
Endowed by Truman staff, faculty, students and alumni, this scholarship recognizes leadership or service to the gay-lesbian-bisexual-transgender community at Truman State University and provides financial assistance to students demonstrating achievement in one of these areas.

George H. Laughlin Memorial
In memory of her grandfather, George H. Laughlin, Francis Laughlin Fuller ('35) endowed this scholarship. Laughlin was professor of languages from 1892-1895 at the First District Normal School, now Truman State University.

Leone-Patterson Student Activity
This scholarship fund was established in 2014 by Ann and Gary Patterson and Tyler Patterson. Ann is a 1972 and 1973 graduate of Truman; she earned her undergraduate degree in education and her master's degree in counseling. Ann and Gary's son Tyler, is a 2006 graduate of Truman; he earned his undergraduate degree in health science. The Pattersons wish to encourage future students to be actively involved in campus organizations and activities and hope recipients of this scholarship will not need to seek employment while students and their schedules will allow them to serve and give back to the campus and community. It is also their hope the recipients will be inspired to continue service and activity in organizations throughout their lives.

Letters Today, Leaders Tomorrow: Fraternity & Sorority Life
The Letters Today, Leaders Tomorrow: Greek Life Endowed Scholarship was established by the Greek Week fundraising committee in 2012 to support members of the Greek community at Truman State University.

Lincoln-Douglas Debate
This fund was established by Fred and Ethel Schwengel. Fred graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman) in 1930 and Ethel graduated in 1932. They established this fund to support the study of Abraham Lincoln. It is used for the annual Lincoln Contest and for periodic maintenance and enhancement of the Lincoln Collection at the Pickler Memorial Library.

Richard William and Clarissa Childers Liss
Both Clarissa Childers Liss and her husband, Richard, graduated from Truman in 1932. She was an English and home economics teacher in Missouri and Kansas and died in 1984.

Miles and Nancy Lovelace
Mrs. Nancy Lovelace was Temporary Assistant Professor of English 1987-1997 and retired as Assistant Professor Emerita in 1997. She holds the B.S.E in English and Social Studies from Penn State, the MAT from Michigan State University, the both the Ed.M. and Master of Liberal Studies degrees from Harvard University. Nancy has taught at schools and universities in the USA, The Philippines, Turkey, Greece, Norway, and Qatar. Her career in teaching EFL and English spanned nearly 45 years. Nancy again retired in 2015 as senior English teacher at the Academic Bridge Program, a Center of the Qatar Foundation, in Doha, Qatar. Dr. Miles Lovelace also served at TSU as Professor of Education, Head of the Division of Education, and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs from 1987-1997, when he retired as Professor and Division Head Emeritus of the Education Division. Miles received the B.S. with honors from the University of Memphis in history and philosophy, the Master of Arts in history and philosophy from the University of Mississippi, did further doctoral studies at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, Penn State University and the University of Florida; Miles also earned from Harvard University the Ed.M. and the Ph.D. degrees in Administration and Planning. Miles has taught in schools and colleges and universities for almost 50 years, including assignments in the USA, Turkey, Greece, Norway, Lebanon, and Qatar. In 2014, he retired as Director of the Academic Bridge Program, a Center of the Qatar Foundation in Doha, Qatar, after serving visiting professorships at the American University of Beirut and Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey.

This scholarship fund was established in 1998 by John Lundgren ('64, '65) from Burlington, Iowa.

Merry Lynn Lyle ('90, '91) Memorial
This scholarship was established in 2010 by Terri (Lyle) Wilson and Michael Wilson ('91) in memory of Terri's mother, Merry Lynn Lyle ('90, '91), a graduate of Truman and a faculty member at Truman. The scholarship is to assist nontraditional students achieve their educational pursuits.

Dr. James J. Lyons and Dean Kathy Rieck
This scholarship fund was established in 2000 by Truman faculty, staff, friends and alumni to honor Dr. Lyons' 28 years of service to Truman, first as a psychology professor and later as head of the Division of Social Science. During Dean Rieck’s 32 year tenure at Truman she served as Executive Assistant to the President, Dean of Admission and Records and Vice President for University Advancement. Dr. Lyons and Dean Rieck married in 2011. This scholarship is awarded to students with high academic ability who intend to major in one of the Social Science disciplines.

MaGee/Korslund/Phi Kappa Phi
This scholarship was established in 1995 for members of Phi Kappa Phi.

Sue and Jack Magruder
Sue Magruder, Truman State University's first First-Lady Emeritus, and Jack Magruder, President Emeritus, are alumni of Truman State University. Sue graduated with degrees from Truman in 1955 and 1977, and Jack received a degree from Truman in 1957. An Education faculty member at Truman for 13 years, Sue took on the role of Truman's First Lady from 1994 to 2003. In his 39 years with Truman, Jack Magruder served as professor of chemistry, academic head of the Division of Science, vice president for Academic Affairs, and from 1994 to 2003 as University president. This scholarship fund was established in their honor by alumni and friends upon his retirement.

President Charles J. McClain
Charles J. McClain was president at Truman from 1970 to 1989. This scholarship fund was created to honor his many years of service to the University.

Martha McClaskey Humanities
This scholarship was founded in memory of Martha Jones McClaskey ('49), an instructor of English at Truman from 1959 to 1978. Prior to her work at Truman, she taught English at Milan High School and Kirksville Junior High School.

Fannie McCully
Howard and Eva McCully were the founders of the McCully Heritage Project in Kampsville, Ill. Howard was a native of Kirksville, Mo., and graduated from the University in 1933. The Fannie McCully Scholarship fund was established by Mr. McCully in honor of his mother.

McKee/Sinele Family Endowed
The purpose of this scholarship fund is to provide scholarships to students at Truman State University. The fund was established with gifts from G. Neill and Lois McKee, Clark County Pharmacy and Scotland County Pharmacy. The scholarship honors the multiple generations of Sinele family members who attended Truman, including Lois '55, her mother and father, Melba '60 and Loyd '57, and brother, Lynn '63. The scholarship is presented to students in the spirit of the family's passion for lifelong learning, the belief that education is the foundation of society and that students have personal responsibility in their educational pursuits.

Colonel Robert L. McKinney Memorial
Col. Robert McKinney ('36) served Truman for more than 30 years as assistant to the president and head of public relations. This scholarship was made possible through the gifts of friends and relatives.

Mrs. Robert (Fran) McKinney
This scholarship was established by friends, colleagues and alumni throughout the world in 1995 to recognize and honor Fran McKinney, who was Truman's International Student Advisor from 1965 to 1995. In retirement, Mrs. McKinney continued to support international students. She passed away on August 6, 2003.

McManis Family
This scholarship was established in 2005 by Michael A. and Marcia M. McManis with their daughters Erin E. McManis and Kristen V. McManis, both of whom are Truman alumna.

St. Louis McNair Scholarship - Annual
This scholarship was established in October 2023 for underrepresented students in the McNair program at Truman State University.

Viola Vogel and E. L. McNeely
This scholarship fund was established in 1984 by E.L. McNeely ('40), then the president of the Wickes Co., to honor his mother, Viola Vogel ('13). Mr. McNeely died in 1988 and this scholarship has been maintained as a tribute to him by his widow, Alice McNeely.

Gregory & Donna Meier & Friends Newman Center
This scholarship was established in 2004 by Gregory Meier ('89) and Cindy Dodson ('87). They met as students while participating in activities at the Newman Center and established this scholarship to honor the organization and assist current Truman State University students. An endowment by the same name was established in 2019 by Greg and Donna, in honor of their children, Michael and Christina. Greg serves as the Chief Operating Officer of ROi CPS, LLC, a division of HealthTrust, a leading healthcare performance improvement company based in Nashville, TN. ROi CPS is accountable for supply chin management at Mercy, one of the nation's largest Catholic health systems.

Senator Norman L. Merrell
The Friends of Senator Norman L. Merrell Committee endowed this scholarship fund in 1994 to memorialize the late senator. Senator Merrell represented the counties surrounding Truman State University for many years.

Robin Meyerkord Memorial
This scholarship was established in 1986 by her family, Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity in memory of Robin Meyerkord after her tragic death in a car accident. Meyerkord was the 1986 Greek Week Queen representing Alpha Sigma Alpha.

Mid-Missouri Alumni Chapter Annual
This scholarship was established in 2006 by the Mid-Missouri Alumni Chapter for an incoming student from mid-Missouri who demonstrates unmet financial need, leadership and community involvement.

Miller-Duperron Endowed
This scholarship was established in 2007 by Linda Miller ('70) and Tim Duperron of Grosse Ile, Mich., in appreciation for the outstanding educational experience Linda received at Truman State University. This education and the support of her professors led to scholarships for advanced education and a very successful career in the automotive industry. This scholarship is also established in recognition of her parents, Louis and Rita Miller of Kirksville, Mo., for all they did to encourage Linda in the pursuit of higher education and their support as she pursued her dreams.

Lou and Rita Miller Endowed
This scholarship fund was established in 2010 by Linda Miller and her husband Tim Duperron of Grosse Ile, MI and Jim Miller of Overland Park, KS in loving memory of their parents, Lou and Rita Miller.

Rex and Bette Brown Miskimins
This scholarship was established in 2001 by Rex and Bette Miskimins. In 1968, both received Masters degrees from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University). They had very successful 30-plus year careers in education, starting in rural Iowa communities and settling in Newton, Iowa, for the majority. Rex was a principal and Bette a middle school teacher.

Dr. Jack and Jan Moore Endowed
This scholarship fund was created in 2011 by Dr. Russell Jack Moore and Mrs. Jan Moore of Ft. Madison, Iowa to provide opportunity for deserving students to receive a Truman State University education. After graduating from then Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1964, (BSE, Sociology-Social Science) Jack achieved an MA (Sociology-Criminology) from University of Nebraska at Omaha, an Ed.S. in Public Services (Criminal Justice Administration) from University of Central Missouri, and in 1984 the Ed.D. in Higher Education (Curriculum and Instruction) from Illinois State University. Dr. Moore retired in 2005 as Professor of Criminal Justice at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa after more than 30 years service. He is a Scottish Rite Mason and KAABA Shriner, a member of Kiwanis and Rotary, and an adjunct instructor for Southeastern Community College (Iowa).

Birdie Mason Moots Endowed
This scholarship was established in 2009 by Mrs. Irene Morrison of Boulder, CO. Mrs. Morrison was a 1950 business graduate of Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University). She passed away April 14, 2011.

Marian M. Morelock
This scholarship was endowed in 1994 by Marian M. Morelock ('31). In 1972, Morelock was awarded the U.S. Navy Superior Civilian Service Award, the second highest honorary award in naval service, for her 31 years of civil service. Miss Morelock passed away in March of 1999.

James and Margaret Mudd Teacher Recognition Scholarship
Since its origin as a normal school in 1867, Truman State University has been committed to providing a strong teacher education program. Over the years, more than 8,000 teachers have received their preparation at the University, and the program is deeply rooted in a tradition of excellence. To honor outstanding high school teachers who have had a transforming impact in the lives of students, the Teacher Recognition Scholarship was established to recognize a high school teacher and provide scholarship support for students at Truman.

Lee Myers Memorial
This scholarship was established in 1994 in honor of Lee Myers by her husband Jack Myers, family, colleagues and friends. Lee Myers worked at Truman State University for over 17 years, primarily as the registrar. She retired in 1988 but continued working part-time in admissions until 1992. She and her husband moved to Texas, and she passed away in her home in May 1994.

Northeast Missouri Alumni Chapter
This scholarship was established in 2015 by the Northeast Missouri Alumni Chapter. Recipient will be encouraged to attend chapter events and serve as a mentor to the Northeast Missouri Alumni Chapter Incoming Student recipient. Preference is given to students whose parents are alumni or are members of the Northeast Missouri Alumni Chapter.

Robert P. Newman Debate
This award honors Dr. Robert P. Newman, who had a distinguished career as a professor of forensics and as a published author. Originally from Hannibal, Mo, Newman spent much of his youth discovering eastern Missouri by hitchhiking, biking, and kayaking. He also worked as a tour guide in Mark Twain Caves. One afternoon, while mowing the family lawn, he was recruited to attend and join the debate team for Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman) by Debate Coach Sherod Collins. Newman was enrolled from 1939 to 1941 and began his lifelong involvement with collegiate forensics activities. In 1942, he earned a bachelor’s degree in speech from the University of Redlands in California, before serving in the Army during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star for valor. While waiting for space on a transport ship home, Newman and other soldiers were offered the opportunity to study for one term at local universities in England. He enrolled at Corpus Christi College at Oxford University, found camaraderie among his fellow scholars, and stayed for nine terms. He left with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in politics, philosophy and economics. After returning to the United States, Newman earned a Ph.D. in education and served as a faculty member at the University of Pittsburg from 1952 to 1984, primarily teaching graduate students in the Department of Communication. He headed the William Pitt Debating Union from 1952 to 1966 and published more than 70 scholarly articles and several books, including “Loss of China,” his 1992 book that was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award. Newman was a mentor for many and stayed in touch with colleagues and former students for most of his life. He passed away in 2018 at the age of 96.

Vonnie and David Nichols
This scholarship was established in 2001 in honor of Vonnie and David Nichols upon their retirement. David taught for 34 years as a member of the Fine Arts faculty. Vonnie was director of the Student Union for six years and served at Truman State University for a total of 28 years. She touched the lives of hundreds of students through her work with the Student Activities Board. Vonnie passed away in 2003.

Dr. Emmanuel Nnadozie McNair
This scholarship was established in honor of Dr. Emmanuel Nnadozie, founding director of the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program at Truman State University. Truman received its first McNair grant in 1992, and the program was directed by Dr. Nnadozie until he left the University in 2004. The goal of the scholarship is to assist current, active McNair Program Participants at Truman.

Elizabeth C. Nolan
Elizabeth Nolan was born in Baring, Mo., and lived to be 100 years old. She was a high school English teacher and also taught freshman English part-time at Truman. She was a warm and intelligent woman with a passion for learning.

The Mark Nordstrom Memorial
This scholarship was established in 2006 in memory of Professor Mark Nordstrom. An assistant professor of communication, Nordstrom was the adviser for detours magazine and the Echo yearbook. He was known for his enthusiasm, work ethic and wonderful sense of humor. Nordstrom passed away May 13, 2006, and Prajwal Sharma, former editor in chief of detours, established this scholarship in his memory.

LLoyd, Marie and Elizabeth Novinger
This scholarship fund was created in 2019 by Dr. William Phillip Novinger of Athens, Georgia, in honor of his parents, Lloyd and Marie, and his sister, Elizabeth. Phil graduated from Novinger High School in 1953 and that fall enrolled at Truman (then Northeast Missouri State Teachers College). Phil graduated in 1959, his Truman education being interrupted by two years in the US Army, earning a Bachelor of Science in education with an emphasis in mathematics. He then enrolled at UM-C and completed his master's degree in mathematics in 1961. Phil returned to Truman to teach until 1964, when he left to continue graduate school at the University of Kentucky, receiving his PhD in Mathematics in 1968. He spent the remainder of his academic career as a Florida State University mathematics and computer science professor and retired in 2001 after 33 years of service.

Clayton and Odessa Ofstad
This scholarship was established by Odessa Ofstad and family and friends of Clayton Ofstad. Mr. Ofstad was an assistant professor of English at Truman from 1967 through 1987. Mrs. Ofstad began working in Pickler Memorial Library in 1967 and, over the next 26 years served in various capacities including cataloger, head cataloger, music and curriculum librarian, archivist and Special Collections librarian. Mrs. Ofstad, who was granted the title Special Collections librarian emerita, retired in 1993.

Richard Overfelt
This award was initiated by faculty and staff of Highcroft Ridge Elementary School (Parkway School District, St. Louis) in 1985, where Dr. Richard Overfelt was principal for many years.

Troy and Kelly Paino Emergency Student Relief
The fund was established in 2016 to commemorate Troy and Kelly's strong and impactful relationship with Truman. Troy served as president from May 10, 2010 to June 30, 2016. President Paino's remarkable personal qualities and extraordinary leadership skills provided a powerful combination as he so capably served the many constituencies required of a University President. Troy and Kelly's capacity to build rapport and develop personal relationships, genuine interest in people, and ability to inspire made them an exceptional asset, whether on donor visits, in small group settings, speaking to alumni gatherings, hosting receptions in the University Residence, or a multitude of other forums. Because Troy and Kelly have been deeply committed to Truman students and their wellbeing, this fund has been established to provide a source of support for those students who are faced with a personal or family emergency that created an unforeseen financial burden.

General John J. Pershing Endowed
The General John J. Pershing Alumni Scholarship Endowment is funded by the generous gifts of former Pershing scholars as well as generous friends of the program. The fund was established at Truman in 1985. The Pershing Scholarship program was established in 1972 by former University President Charles J. McClain.

Phi Sigma Kappa Initiate Endowed
This scholarship fund was established in 2011 by Ed Coil, a 1989 graduate of Truman State University, through a generous gift to the Foundation to promote the Phi Sigma Kappa cardinal principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship and Character.

Preferred Family Healthcare
This endowed scholarship fund was established in 2004 by Mr. Michael Schwend ('83, '90), president and chief executive officer of Preferred Family Healthcare, to provide scholarships for Truman State University students.

George S. Preisack Jr. Memorial
This memorial to George S. Preisack Jr. was established by family and friends in 1987. Preisack's daughter, Lynne, and son, Jeff, graduated from Truman in 1984 and 1988, respectively.

Vincent Price Theatrical Performance
Vincent Price, an internationally known actor, established this award in 1984. Price performed at Truman more than at any other college or university in the country.

Larry and Sharron Quisenberry Business Endowed
This scholarship fund was established in 2010 by Larry and Sharron Quisenberry of Tifton, GA, to provide opportunity for deserving students to receive a Truman State University degree. Larry Quisenberry holds a bachelor's degree in business education (1966) and a master's in secondary school administration (1975) from Truman State University. He holds a Ph.D. in general school administration and has served as a teacher, school administrator, accountant, and in several position in higher education. He retired as an assistant to the Provost at Iowa State University. Upon graduation from Truman in 1966, Sharron Quisenberry taught in secondary education until entering graduate school, receiving a Ph.D. in entomology. She has spent her professional life as a researcher and university administrator and retired as as Vice President for Research and Economic Development at Iowa State University. Sharron is internationally recognized for research in insect/host interactions and conservation of insect resistant germplasm and is a Fellow of the Entomological Society of America.

Michael J. and Geraldine M. (Toth) Ready
This scholarship program was established in 2012 by Geraldine and Michael Ready of Sun City Center, FL in recognition of a lifelong association with Truman State University. Geraldine joined JCPenney Inc., following her graduation from Truman in 1970, and began a 37-plus year career with the company, where she held numerous positions including distribution manager, assistant buyer, inventory manager and project manager in the information systems and development area. Michael Ready enjoyed a long and productive career with KPMG. Geraldine has been actively involved with Truman as a key volunteer, serving on the Truman State University Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Truman State University Foundation Board of Directors. She has also worked extensively with the Dallas Alumni Chapter and received the Truman Alumni Distinguished Service Award in 2006.

Shari L. Reinhard
This scholarship was established in honor of Shari L. Reinhard ('58) by her husband, Judge James R. Reinhard and her son, James K. Reinhard. Shari graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1958 with a degree in vocational home economics. Her husband attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College prior to transferring to the University of Missouri School of Law. He and their son, James K., both served as chairman of the Board of Regents and Board of Governors, respectively, of Truman State University. Shari, in addition to teaching for 12 years, has served as a member of the Paris Library Board and as president of the Hannibal Free Public Library Board.

Rickli Family
This scholarship was established by Kenneth and Kathleen Rickli of The Woodlands, TX with a commitment of $600,000. Kenneth graduated from Truman State University (then Northeast Missouri State Teachers College) in 1965 having earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration. This award serves to recognize the valuable preparation that Kenneth and his siblings, Al Rickli and Geri Rickli-Peters, received while students at Affton High School. Al graduated from Affton in 1954, followed by Kenneths graduation in 1958 and finally Geris graduation in 1962. Al passed away in 2010. This award further honors the memory of their teacher and mentor, Miss Doris Ahrens who had a deep and lasting impact on each of their lives. Miss Ahrens was a highly respected English teacher at Affton High School. The purpose of this Fund shall be to provide scholarship support for graduates of Affton High School in St. Louis, MO at Truman State University.

Larry and Jan Rigdon Regional
Larry Rigdon ('70) and his wife Jan Thompson Rigdon ('71) established this scholarship in 1993 to provide students with financial need the opportunity to obtain a quality education at Truman State University.

Ian Michael Rucker Memorial
This scholarship was established as a memorial to Ian Rucker ('05) by his parents, John and Carol Rucker. It is available to students who are interested in academic excellence and using their education in order to better mankind.

Vernon P. Russell
This award is a gift of Mr. Russell ('32) to his alma mater. Russell, who died in 1998, was a high school teacher and farmer for many years.

Ryle Hall
This scholarship was established in 1979 by the Ryle Hall Council.

Dr. Walter Ryle International Student
This scholarship was established in 2008 by Mrs. Noemy Gomez Jibben ('48) in memory of former University president Walter Ryle. Jibben, a native of Costa Rica, was recruited to Truman State University (then Northeast Missouri State Teachers College) by Dr. Ryle in 1943 and was among the school's first International students. She met and married a Kirksville native, Robert Ellis Jibben ('47). She spent several years teaching Spanish at Truman while he completed his medical degree at KCOM. She established this scholarship to assist current and future International students and to honor Dr. Walter Ryle for the outstanding support he provided her as a student and especially for his vision to encourage cultural globalization.

Walter Ryle III, Mary Evelyn and Karl E. Thurman
This scholarship fund was created on July 4, 1999, by Mary Evelyn Thurman ('46) to honor Dr. Walter H. Ryle ('16), a distinguished past president (1937-1967) of Truman State University, and her brother Karl ('43).

Schwend Family
This scholarship was established by Mike ('83, '90) and Mary Jo ('81, '83) Schwend through a $50,000 pledge commitment in May 2016 through the $40 million Pursue the Future Campaign. With 10 members (and counting) of the Schwend family having attended Truman over the years, their appreciation for the value of a Truman education runs deep. This scholarship is created to honor the family's legacy with the University and provide opportunity for future generations of Truman students.

Scotland County Scholarship
This scholarship was established in August, 2021, by Truman State University alumni and friends who want to provide financial support to Truman students who graduated from Scotland County R-1 High School in Memphis, Missouri.

Gary and Joyce Sells
This scholarship was established in February, 2014 by Gary and Joyce Sells. Gary benefitted from scholarship support when he was a graduate student. He also recalls, as a Truman faculty member, how important scholarships for upperclassmen and graduate students were to his students. As such, Gary and Joyce have decided to provide scholarship support for upperclassmen or graduate-level students at Truman.

Sensei Alumni Ultimate Frisbee Endowed
This fund was established by the SUN Ultimate Frisbee Foundation to provide a scholarship for a member of the Club Men's Ultimate Frisbee team (JujiTSU) or Club Women's Ultimate Frisbee team (TSUnami) at Truman State University.

Marion Shanes Memorial
This scholarship fund was established in memory of Marion A. Shanes ('29) by his wife, Irene, and family. Shanes, who lived from 1907 to 1994, was an educator who taught hundreds of children during a career that lasted over 15 years. Marion and Irene Shanes are charter members of the John R. Kirk Society.

Dan and Jan Shepherd International Student
This scholarship was established by Mr. Daniel Shepherd and Mrs. Janet Shepherd of Clifton Hill, Mo., with an estate gift provision of approximately $3,000,000. Dan Shepherd is a 1979 graduate of Truman State University where he earned a B.S. in agriculture. While at Truman, Dan was involved in Ag Club, Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity and the Soil Conservation Society. Jan is a 1976 graduate, having earned a one year clerical certificate in business and accountancy. Following graduation, Jan served as a member of the Truman State University business office staff until 1984.

Dan and Jan Shepherd Student

Waymon O. Shofstall
This scholarship fund was established by the will of Jacquelyn D. Shofstall to memorialize her husband, Waymon O. Shofstall ('28). Shofstall was an educator for over 40 years.

Sigma Kappa Sorority Delta Theta Chapter Annual
In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Sigma Kappa Sorority, Delta Theta Chapter, this scholarship was established in 2019. It was supported by alumnae chapter members to support current members who exhibit exemplary leadership, spirit and service to the chapter and the Greek community.

Jett Silas Annual
This scholarship was established in the spring of 2010 by David and Ellen Clithero in honor of their grandson, Jett Silas. An endowed scholarship of the same name will be funded through a provision in their will. David and Ellen Clithero are both graduates of Truman State University. David graduated in 1983 with a bachelor of science in business education. Ellen graduated in 1998 with a bachelor of science in psychology.

Dr. Samuel Lloyd Simpson
This scholarship fund was established in 2014 through the Truman State University Foundation by the family of Dr. Samuel Lloyd Simpson. It is designed to provide opportunity for deserving students from Shelby County, Missouri, to earn a Truman State University degree. The fund includes a bequest from the estate of Dr. Simpson's daughter, Betty Jo Oswald, who received Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Arts degrees from Truman State University. Dr. Simpson was a well-known country doctor who practiced in the Leonard, Novelty, Bethel and Shelbina areas for many years, providing health care to rural and community residents. During his 30 years in practice, Dr. Simpson attended the birth of more than 2500 babies having never lost a mother. He passed away in 1950. The family has a deep history with the University as Betty Jo's son and daughter, Sam Duncan and Deborah Coco are 1970 and 1972 graduates of Truman State University.

David and Elizabeth Skibbe Endowed
This scholarship was established by David and Elizabeth Skibbe through an estate gift provision. David, a first generation college student, earned his BS in Biology at Truman. David and Elizabeth both firmly believe in the value of higher education and are proud to support this four-year scholarship to help first generation college students. The purpose of this fund shall be to provide scholarship support of up to full tuition for students at Truman State University.

Denise L. Smith Texas Annual
This scholarship was established in 2018 by John Millemon in memory of Denise L. Smith ('79) who was the director of Alumni Relations at Truman State University for 17 years.

St. Louis Alumni Chapter
This scholarship was endowed in 2003 for an entering freshman student from metro St. Louis (St. Louis City, Missouri Counties: St. Louis, St. Charles, Franklin and Jefferson. Illinois Counties of Madison and St. Clair), with preference given to students with involvement in extra-curricular activities, scholastic achievement and financial need. Funds for the scholarship account were raised by the St. Louis Alumni Chapter over a period of four years through proceeds from their annual golf tournament. The scholarship is awarded at the Student Send-Off in St. Louis.

Lydle and Bessie Staggs
Lydle Staggs graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman) in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture business and a minor in science. During the depression, he was able to obtain a teaching certificate and taught at a rural school until he completed his degree. During World War II, he was a welding supervisor in a defense plant in St. Paul, Minnesota. For several years, he served as the itinerant vocational agriculture instructor in the Missouri counties of Shelby, Knox and Monroe, and in Excello, Mo. In addition to teaching, he also farmed. He retired from teaching and from grain farming in 1977. Bessie May Otten Staggs graduated from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (Truman) in 1933 with a Bachelor of Science in education degree with a music/instrumental emphasis. She spent much of her life teaching music. She passed away on August 31, 1993. Lydle lived to the age of 90 and passed away on May 19, 2001. As lifelong educators, Lydle and Bessie recognized the importance of education and chose to continue their support of education by providing financial assistance to deserving college students.

Silas P. Stice Memorial
Silas P. Stice was a student here in the early 1930s, receiving a teaching certificate. During a lengthy career, he was a teacher, served in the U.S. Army, and became a respected businessman. He died in 1986. This scholarship was funded by his children, Linda K. Stice and Larry Stice.

SunGard Higher Education Endowed
This scholarship fund was established in 2007 by the SunGard Corporation with a commitment of $25,000 to the University's Bright Minds Bright Futures campaign. The purpose of this fund shall be to provide need-based scholarships at Truman State Univesrity.

Kenneth C. and Madelene M. Sykes Memorial
This scholarship was established in 1992 by Madelene (McEuen) Sykes ('42,'64), family and friends to honor Kenneth C. Sykes ('39), a native of Kirksville, who served the University as the administrative assistant to the president and as the first director of the Student Union. He passed away in 1992. Madelene was a long-time professor in the Language & Literature Department where her area of expertise was the author Mark Twain. She passed away in 2001.

John and Denise Teal Veterans Appreciation
This scholarship was established in 2007 to help support students at Truman State University who are honorably discharged veterans from any branch of the armed services and children of military personnel who have been killed or became permanently disabled in the line of duty.

Dr. Ronald E. Thomas Endowed
This scholarship fund was created in 2012 by Dr. Ronald E. Thomas and Mrs. Ann M. Thomas of Lakeville, Minnesota, to provide opportunity for deserving students to receive a Truman State University education. Dr. Thomas enrolled at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College after graduating from high school in Roxana, IL. Dr. Thomas is a 1965 alumnus of Truman State University having earned a Bachelor of Science in Education with an emphasis in Physical Education. During his undergraduate education, Dr. Thomas was involved in K-Club, Mennehune Organization, Independent Club and athletics. Following his graduation from Truman, Dr. Thomas continued his education at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville completing a Master of Science in 1967 and a Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1976. Dr. Thomas career includes service as a junior high teacher and coach, director of international admissions at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and director of student services at University of Wisconsin-Waukesha. Thomas served as Dean of Educational Services at Centralia College in Centralia, Washington, dean and interim president at Rochester Community and Technical College, in Rochester, Minnesota and president of Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kansas. Dr. Thomas has been the president of Dakota County Technical College in Rosemount, Minnesota since 1999. In addition to Thomas experience he was the recipient of the Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction for Presidential Leadership by Phi Theta Kappa in 1999, was named the College President Pacesetter of the year by District V of the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations in 2004 and 2011, received the Distinguished Star Education Award by the National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education in 2007, has served as the Board Chair of the National Association of Community College Entrepreneurship , and has been a presenter and author of numerous community college issues across the country.

Brenda Thompson Memorial Endowed
This scholarship fund was established in 2012 by John Thompson, Jr. in memory of his mother, Brenda Thompson. John graduated from Williamsville High School in 1988. He proceeded to Truman State University as a first generation college student, earning a degree in history in 1992. He was named a Fulbright and Rotary Scholar and conducted post-graduate research projects in Montevideo, Uruguay and Buenos Aires, Argentina. He taught for a number of years and then enrolled at the University of Chicago, where he earned a Master's degree in Latin American studies and Master's degrees in business administration in finance and international business. He has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry and remains active in research. He is a frequent speaker at industry and client conferences and his work has appeared in Financial Planning, International Political Economy and World Trade Magazine. Brenda Thompson graduated from Williamsville High School and served as the librarian there for many years. She passed away in 2007 at the age of 56. John established this scholarship in his mother's memory. He is grateful for the education he received and wants to encourage students from Williamsville to follow his path to Truman State University.

Gordon R. Tobin Jazz Piano
This scholarship was endowed in 2016 by Dr. Diane E. Johnson, her family and friends in loving memory of her father, Gordon R. Tobin (1916-2008). Tobin was raised in Sidney, Nebraska and earned his degree at the University of Wyoming. His aunt noticed an early aptitude for music and urged his family to provide piano lessons. He partially financed his education by leading Toby Tobin and the Collegians, a jazz dance band. He was one of the first two volunteers from Cheyenne County (NE) as the U.S. stood on the brink of World War II. He was recruited by the OSS, was stationed in London and rose to the rank of major. He continued playing the piano (making good use of the sheet music that the USO provided) through the war years, and joined a combo in his hometown after he returned from the war. He had a lifelong love of jazz. Dr. Johnson is an associate professor emerita, having served at Truman for more than a decade teaching a wide variety of courses in Communication. She is remembered for her love of learning and for the compassion she showed for students and colleagues. This scholarship was established to encourage a lifelong devotion to and appreciation of jazz as well as active participation in the jazz program at Truman State University.

Dr. Ruth W. Towne/Delta Zeta Sorority
This scholarship was established in August of 2014 by the Delta Sigma Chapter of Delta Zeta Sorority at Truman State University in memory of Dr. Ruth Warner Towne, for her many years of service as College Chapter Director (1953-87) and Faculty Advisor (1987-98) of the chapter. Dr. Towne was a 1939 graduate of what is now known as Truman State University and a member of the history faculty for more than 40 years. Serving as Dean of Graduate Studies from 1983 until her retirement in 1988, she earned the titles of Professor Emeritus of History and Dean Emeritus of Graduate Studies. Dr. Towne continued to teach part-time until 1993 and pursued her scholarly endeavors and remained active at the University on a daily basis until her death in 1998.

James Trent
In 1971, the family and friends of James Trent established this fund in his honor. Trent was a long-time member of the Kirksville City Council, a well-known business leader and a former student and faithful supporter of Truman.

Elna (Langford) Tucker
This scholarship fund was established in 2000 by Elna (Langford) Tucker ('54) to provide support for a student from a rural community.

Matt and Karen Tucker Endowed
This scholarship was established in 2016 with an estimated $15,000 deferred gift Matt and Karen Tucker of Byrnes Mill, Missouri. Karen is a 1998 Truman graduate with a BA in communication while Matt earned his BS in business administration from Truman in 1999 and his master’s in business administration from University of Illinois-Edwardsville in 2001. Matt and Karen met during Matt’s freshman year. They welcomed their first child and married while undergrads at Truman. Their Truman experience provided them with a solid foundation for their relationship and their careers. Matt and Karen will celebrate their 19th wedding anniversary this August.

Vicky Sue Van Wye Memorial
This scholarship was established by friends and family of Vicky Van Wye after she died in a car accident in 1998. Vicky was a 1987 graduate of Kirksville High School and a senior business administration major at Truman who worked full-time to pay for school. The scholarship recipient must be a Kirksville High School graduate who shows financial need.

Nan E. Wade/Cardinal Key
This scholarship honors Dr. Nan E. Wade, a retired faculty member and former Cardinal Key sponsor. The Eugene Fair Chapter of Cardinal Key Honorary Sorority has offered a scholarship since 1956.

Washington, D.C. Intern
This scholarship was established by the Mid-Atlantic Alumni Chapter to assist students who are chosen by the University to participate in an internship program in Washington, D.C.

Samuel A. Jeffries and Alice White
Alice White was a graduate of Durham (MO) high school and attended Truman State University in the late thirties and again in the late sixties. She taught school for many years in the states of Florida and Missouri. She moved to the Monroe City area in 1989 and spent her retirement years hunting, traveling and visiting friends and relatives. She died peacefully in her home in 2010. She created this scholarship fund with a generous bequest.

Betty Jo White, D.O., Baptist Student Union Endowed Stipend
This scholarship was established by Betty Jo White, D.O., FACOS, in 2013. As a student, Dr. Betty Jo White (1959) had the opportunity to attend several Baptist Student Union retreats and special events and established this fund with the intent of supporting others to do the same and to honor the Baptist Student Union.

Whitney Family
This scholarship was established in November of 2011 by Mike Whitney. Mike, a 1994 Truman alumnus, was inspired to establish a scholarship in honor of members of his family who have attended Truman State University and upheld a strong tradition of service to the community of Kirksville, Mo., and to Adair County. This includes his mother and father, Alta and Larry Whitney, his brother Mark Whitney and his grandfather Cloy Whitney. The Whitney Family Scholarship is designed to help deserving students from Adair County further their leadership skills through an education at Truman.

Stan and Mary Ann Williams
This scholarship was established in 2019 by David and Ellen Clithero in honor of Ellen’s parents, Stan and Mary Ann Williams. The scholarship will be funded through outright gifts and further bolstered through a provision in their will. David and Ellen Clithero are both graduates of Truman State University. David graduated in 1983 with a bachelor of science in business education. Ellen graduated in 1998 with a bachelor of science in psychology.

Zen Del Senior High School
The Zen Del Senior High School Scholarship fund was established in 2011 to assist students from Zen Del Senior High School achieve their educational goals at Truman State University.

Megan (Over ) Holmes
This scholarship was established in 2008 by Megan (Over) Holmes. Megan attended Truman State University as an out-of-state student and was appreciative of the scholarship support she received, which ultimately made her decision to attend Truman. Her desire is to provide scholarship support to help Truman continue to attract talented out-of-state students. She also believes that personal development occurs outside the classroom, which is why extra-curricular involvement is part of the criteria.
