Samuel Burk
This scholarship was established in 1982 by Vera Burk in honor of her late husband, Samuel Burk. Burk served on the Truman Board of Regents from 1973 through 1979, serving a year as president. The Burks founded Kirksville's KIRX and KRXL radio stations.

Aileen Corbin/Pi Kappa Delta
This scholarship was established in 1983 as a memorial to Aileen Corbin by her husband, William N. Corbin. He provided additional funding with a bequest of $10,000. Corbin retired from the Division of Language and Literature at Truman. William Corbin died in 1989.

Clifton Cornwell Award for Electronic Media
This scholarship was established in 1991 by William L. Moore (’34) in honor of his former professor, Clifton Cornwell. A native of Spickard, Mo., Cornwell attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman) while also teaching at a number of local rural schools. He became a member of the Truman faculty in 1924 and completed coursework for his Bachelor of Art’s degree at Truman in 1925. He earned a Master’s degree from University of Missouri in 1930. In 1945, he accepted a position as director of public relations with the Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery. He retired from that position in 1961 and was awarded an honorary degree from KCOS of Doctor of Humane Letters. He passed away in 2012.

Dvorak Journalism
The Society of Professional Journalists/Sigma Delta Chi established this scholarship to honor former mass communications instructor Jack Dvorak.

Dvorak Journalism Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in January, 2023 by Patricia (Pat) Haile Hays to support Truman students and honor Truman’s former mass communication professor Dr. Jack Dvorak. Pat graduated summa cum laude from Truman with a Bachelor of Science in Education – Communication degree in 1978. In 1990, Pat earned a Juris Doctorate, with honors, from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Bowen School of Law. The purpose of this Fund shall be to provide a scholarship at Truman State University.

Craig V. Evans Memorial Debate
This scholarship was established on October 25, 2006 by Elizabeth Evans in memory of her late son, Craig V. Evans. Craig graduated valedictorian, summa cum laude, from Truman (formerly Northeast Missouri State University) in 1975, with a Bachelor of Science degree in law enforcement and corrections and a minor in speech. Craig was a member of Blue Key, active in R.O.T.C. for four years and a member of the debate team. At the time of his death, Craig served as general counsel for the Missouri Department of Conservation. Elizabeth Evans graduated from Truman in 1952 and 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and a Master of Arts degree in elementary education respectively.

Hearst Communication
The Hearst Scholarships were established in 1986 through a grant from the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. The initial grant was the first in a series of gifts made by the Hearst Foundation.

KIRX, KRXL and KTUF
In 2003, this scholarship was created through an anonymous donation of $25,000, accepted in the name of KIRX, KRXL and KTUF. The scholarship was created to support and encourage talented students entering the communications field.

H. Chandler Monroe Memorial
This award was established in memory of Chandler Monroe by his family and friends. Prof. Monroe was a member of the Truman faculty from 1960-1990. After his 30-year tenure at Truman, he retired as professor emeritus of speech. In 1990, Monroe was named Truman's Educator of the Year.

Carrie T. Nauyalis Communications
This scholarship was established by Carrie T. Nauyalis ('94), of Austin, Texas, to encourage deserving students to complete their undergraduate education in the area of Communications. This assistance is provided with the hope that recipients will go on to be successful members of society and will continue to strengthen their relationship with Truman through charitable donations of either time or resources.

This scholarship was established by Carrie T. Nauyalis ('94), of Austin, Texas, to encourage deserving students to complete their undergraduate education in the area of Communications. Linnea L. Ratcliff
This scholarship was endowed in September of 1997 by Linnea L. Ratcliff, Ph.D., professor emeritus of communication at Truman. Dr. Ratcliff was a member of the faculty from 1969 to 1997, during which time she helped to educate and serve students in the field of communication.

Amy Ayres Rosebery Debate
This scholarship fund was established in 2007 by Dr. Dean and Amy Rosebery of Kirksville, MO, to honor recognize and perpetuate Amy's achievements as a member of the University's debate team. Amy Ayres Rosebery, a native of Atlanta, MO, was a top performer in oratory and debate contests at Truman State University in the early 1940's. Forensics continues to be one of the University's signature programs.

Paul Talley and Matt Johnson Memorial
This scholarship was established in 2004 as a tribute to the contributions of Paul Talley and Matt Johnson to the field of photography. Talley, 44, and Johnson, 25, were among 13 people killed aboard a commuter plane crash on October 19, 2004 near Kirksville. They were part of the Hawkeye Creative Communication team assisting Truman with the creation and design of new University publications and they were scheduled to take photographs on campus. Talley and his wife and daughter were residents of Mesquite,, Texas. Johnson was a 1997 graduate of Longview High School in Texas.

Norb Tatro Missouri Annual
This scholarship was established by Norb Tatro in 2008. Tatro is a retired Chicago-based writer, originally from Mason City, Iowa, who worked for more than 40 years--half of that time at NBC--as a broadcast journalist and journalism educator. He earned an MSJ from the Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University. For five semesters, he commuted to Kirksville from Chicago to teach in a tenure-track position in journalism at Truman. Tatro maintains an online blog, Norblog. A former marathoner, he still enjoys jogging/walking along Chicago's lakefront. He and his wife, Elaine Feldman, live in the city's Lake View neighborhood.

Dr. Albert J. Weitz
This scholarship fund was created in 2012 by Dr. Albert J. Weitz of Kirksville, Missouri to provide opportunity for deserving students to receive a Truman State University education. Dr. Weitz earned a BA in history and speech from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa in 1973 before attending Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana where he achieved a MA in Public Communication in 1975. Dr. Weitz began his career at Truman in 1989 where he was a member of the communication faculty. His research interests included communication and date rape prevention, incorporation of technology into the classroom and innovating the workplace. He held a Ph.D. in speech communication from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He was a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Readers Roundtable, National Communication Association and New York State Communication Association. Dr. Weitz passed away on June 26, 2013.

J.C. and Donna Wright Memorial
Originally endowed by Dr. James C. Wright and friends, this scholarship memorializes two people who devoted their lives to education. Dr. J. C. Wright served as a teacher, principal and superintendent in Iowa. He came to Truman in 1965 and was a professor of education through his retirement in 1972. Donna Wright was an instructor of English at Truman from 1965 to 1973.
